Our Story

Hello!

We are Maria and Lucy, mother and daughter and the namesake behind Lu-Ma. Several years ago we both found ourselves on a healing journey. That journey led us to explore many modalities and one that stuck with us was learning and training in Macrobiotics. For those that aren’t familiar, Macrobiotics is a way of life that aligns with the natural order to things and part of that is eating natural foods. Foods that are locally grown, in season and energetically balancing. Food groups such as whole grains, fruit, vegetables, beans, legumes and superfoods. After eating this way ourselves we found that our symptoms decreased and our ailments healed. It was such a huge revelation for us, that food could heal us from the inside out.

As food of this kind was hard to come by in our local town of Wimbledon, we decided to open a whole food Macrobiotic focussed cafe in the heart of it. A cafe where people could discover foods that not only made them feel good but that taste great too. And so Lu-Ma was born. Family run and community focussed, we pour our love into each dish so that you can experience the health changing benefits too.

Our Executive Chef, Angela Agrati-Prange, has over 40 years experience in Macrobiotic food and has worked with us for the last 9 years since we opened to create delicious and nutritious seasonal menus. Our menu is dairy and meat free, refined sugar free and mostly gluten free. We know through experience that eating this way can be challenging so we’ve made healthy food accessible, convenient and affordable.

We offer well-being workshops and events to help support our community on their own holistic journey.

We truly know that well-being and healing isn’t linear, that one persons well-being can look different to another and that it can take many different paths to get to feeling your best. We hope you find something that resonates with you at Lu-Ma and we look forward to welcoming you into our healing community space.
